Gwen awards P60,000 to Palaro champion Catmon girls spikers

THE Catmon elementary girls volleyball team will receive P60,000 in cash incentives from the office of Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia for winning the gold medal in the recent Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Members of the gold medal-winning team and their coach paid a courtesy call on the governor yesterday at the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

Gov. Garcia warmly welcomed the young champion spikers and hoped that their achievement will encourage more young girls to take up the sport.
The cash incentive will be released this Monday.

The Catmon team which visited the governor yesterday included 10 players, team trainer Zack Vilze, head coach Vilma Veloso who was also named as Best Coach of this year’s Palaro and Catmon Mayor Dan Jusay.

Also present during the visit were Vice-Gov. Agnes Magpale, Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) president Glenn Soco, CEVA Board of Director Ryan Aznar, provincial board member Hon. Jude Sybico and Nona Catipay of the Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup.

The Catmon girls are also the reigning National Little Milo Olympics defending champions.

Aside from winning the Palaro gold, the team also bagged special awards. May Angelie Montebon won as Best Receiver while Justine Dorog was named Best Attacker.
