Today, Nov. 6, is the 56th death anniversary of President Jose P. Laurel. He was first elected to the Philippine Senate in 1925, serving as senator until he was appointed associate justice of the Supreme Court in 1936. He served as President of the country from 1943 to 1945 during the Japanese occupation. He was re-elected to the Senate in 1951 before retiring from public office in 1957. Laurel died in 1959 in Mandaluyong City. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
