TODAY, Nov. 4, is the 119th birth anniversary of President Carlos P. Garcia. He was first elected senator in 1941 but did not assume office due to the Japanese occupation. He eventually served as senator from 1945 to 1953. He was elected vice president in 1953 and was sworn in as president on March 18, 1957, after Ramon Magsaysay died in a plane crash. He was elected to a second term as president, serving from December 1957 to December 1961. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
