MRT train abrupty stops at Santolan station

A NORTH-BOUND  Metro Rail Transit-3 train abruptly stopped at the Santolan station past 9 p.m. on Tuesday, causing panic among passengers.

This reporter was riding the train when the incident happened. Some passengers lost their balance and fell to the floor when the train suddenly stopped.

Some frightened  passengers screamed, and one passenger even broke the train’s handle during the scary moment.

An elderly woman who seemed to hurt her back was escorted and brought out of the train on a wheelchair.

Minutes later, the passengers got off the train and MRT personnel told the riders to wait for the next northbound train.

The MRT-3 has received severe criticisms due to numerous train breakdowns, stoppages, and an accident last year.

On August 13, 2014, at least 38 passengers were hurt after an MRT train overshot the tracks at the Taft Avenue station at the corner of Edsa and Taft Avenue in Pasay City.

The MRT management has yet to issue a statement on the incident.
