TWO SOLDIERS and a member of a paramilitary force were killed in two separate encounters with suspected communist insurgents in Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur over the weekend.
One soldier and a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) were killed late Saturday night when suspected communist rebels attacked an Army detachment guarding the Namukanan Bridge in Daguit, Labo, Camarines Norte, which is under construction.
The fatalities were identified as Pvt. Reymark Camila Regore of the 49th Infantry Battalion and Anthony Aceron, a Cafgu member. Another soldier was wounded while two M14 rifles were lost to the rebels in the hour-long encounter.
In the other incident, Pvt. Edmhol Rey Caceres was shot dead by two suspected insurgents in the market of an interior town in Libmanan, Camarines Sur.
The market was some 500 meters from an Army patrol base guarding construction equipment for public works projects. The insurgents took off with the soldier’s M16 rifle.
The military said the attack happened after the private contractor did not heed the rebels’ extortion demands. Julie M. Aurelio and Inquirer Southern Luzon
