A RADIO reporter was killed by a still unidentified gunman upon arriving at a fast-food restaurant Saturday night in Quezon City. The attack also wounded a restaurant employee.

Jose Bernardo of DWIZ was shot several times by the assailant as he was about to park his motorcycle outside the establishment on Zabarte Road, Barangay Kaligayahan. The employee, Marlon Dionio, was hit by a stray bullet and was recuperating at FEU General Hospital as of Sunday.

According to Chief Insp. Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, the 44-year-old victim told his family hours before the killing that he was meeting somebody in Quezon City.

The person whom he was supposed to meet, however, remained a mystery. The motive behind the attack on Bernardo—whether it was related to his work as a broadcaster—also remained under investigation, Marcelo said.

FEATURED STORIES

A witness told the police that he saw a man approach and shoot Bernardo pointblank, hitting him in the head and body. The shooter then casually walked away and joined another man on a motorbike, who apparently served as his lookout, before the duo sped off toward Camarin, Caloocan City.

Barangay security officers brought Bernardo to the nearby Bernardino General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead more than an hour later.
