ILOILO CITY—An independent candidate for councilor is facing charges after police found a gun, ammunition and hand grenades in his house in San Enrique town, Iloilo during a raid early Friday.
Julie Lapasaran has been detained in the Criminal Intelligence and Detection Group inside Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City to face charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Two hand grenades, a .45 caliber pistol and several magazines for M16 rifle were seized from his house in Barangay Poblacion, San Enrique.
Chief Insp. Julius Jacinto, CIDG chief in Iloilo and Guimaras, said the raid stemmed from reports that Lapasaran owned several firearms.
Lapasaran claimed that he owned the firearms and ammunition when he was still with the police service.
Jacinto said that when they checked Lapasaran’s background, they found out that the suspect was dismissed from service in 2001 after he was arrested along with members of the Ilonggo Kidnap for Ransom group.
Lapasaran is also facing several criminal charges pending in court. CDG
