Hundreds of first-aid volunteers deployed in cemeteries

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has deployed hundreds of first-aid volunteers in different cemeteries around the country as millions of Filipinos troop there this weekend to observe All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day.

“The Red Cross will once again mobilize first aid stations in cemeteries and memorial parks,” said PRC Chair Richard Gordon in a statement.

He said this is part of the PRC’s annual “Oplan Kaluluwa” operations in a bid to keep the public safe during the occasion.

Gordon said the PRC will be present in 277 cemeteries in the country, as well as in 11 seaports and airports, and 12 bus terminals.

In addition, PRC first aid stations will also be in 11 gasoline stations along major highways, such as in the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

Gordon encouraged the public to report emergency incidents to the Red Cross, which, in turn will report to the nearest first aid units.

Those in urgent need of assistance can contact the PRC Hotline 143 or 790-2300; or cell phone number 09178068513; or email opcen@redcross.org.ph.
