BACOLOD CITY—Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Rep. Evelio Leonardia yesterday called the death of Dr. Ricardo Yanson Sr. a big loss to Negros Occidental and Bacolod City.
Yanson, 86, founder of Vallacar Transit Inc., suffered a massive heart attack and died at Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City early Sunday morning, his daughter Emily said.
Marañon said Yanson was a self-made tycoon who cofounded with his wife, Olivia, in 1968, Vallacar Transit Inc.
Yanson, through hard work and dedication, became a success worthy of emulation by the young, the governor said.
The governor pointed out that Yanson provided jobs to thousands of people, assisted those in need and helped educational institutions.
Leonardia said Yanson, who was a godfather at his wedding, was a great friend and businessman who did a lot of charitable work.
