CEBU CITY—Two sisters, aged 16 and 11, were killed by their own uncle who stabbed, hacked and slashed them while they were sleeping inside their home in Barangay Napo, Carcar City, in southern Cebu.
Domingo Llanos Mangyao, 29, who was reportedly suffering from mental illness, also committed suicide after killing his nieces.
Rosalyn Mangyao, 16, and her younger sister Charmain, 11, died of fatal wounds in the neck and other parts of their bodies, said their father Ranulfo.
Ranulfo, 47, said he and his wife went to the house of a neighbor after taking their dinner because his wife was tasked to lead the prayer for the 40th day of the death of a neighbor.
When they went back home past 10 p.m., Ranulfo said, their two grandsons Brylle Hermoso, 4, and Jay Lawrence, 3, were crying, telling them that their uncle stabbed and hacked their two aunts using a long and sharp bladed bolo.
Ranulfo and wife immediately went inside the house and saw the body of Charmain lying on a mat.
Her head was almost severed from her neck.
Ranulfo said he went to the mezzanine floor of their shanty and found Rosalyn, also on a mat. She also had several wounds in the body and neck.
Ranulfo said the body of his younger brother Domingo was also lying nearby.
Ranulfo said Brylle told them that he and Jay Lawrence hid inside a big basin that had a hole in the center.
After killing his nieces, Domingo then slashed his neck, Brylle told his grandparents.
Domingo was released from prison in September after he held hostage his nephew last year.
When Domingo stayed in their house, Ranulfo said he noticed that Domingo didn’t speak much. Jhunnex Napallacan/RC
