THE POLICE have arrested the two suspects—one of them a minor—in the killing of a doctor whose body was hidden in a septic tank in San Mateo, Rizal province on Oct. 18.
Supt. Ruben Piquero, San Mateo police chief, said that murder and qualified theft charges were expected to be filed against Brian Garanil, 19; and his brother, a teenage minor, today.
The brothers are suspects in the killing of Dr. Jesus Comedido, a pediatrician who was stabbed dead and his body stuffed inside the septic tank of his house in Bancom Subdivision, Barangay Gulod Malaya.
Investigation showed that the brothers bore a grudge against the victim who once scolded Brian.
The Garanils, Piquero said, arrived in San Mateo on Sunday morning following their arrest in Masbate province based on a tip received by authorities.
He added that based on the testimonies of the barangay security guard and the victim’s neighbor, the two boys were the last to leave the doctor’s house on Oct. 18.
Some of the victim’s belongings, including his cell phones and a laptop, were later determined to be missing.
“We will file the charges [in] the [Rizal] Prosecutor’s Office,” Piquero said.
According to him, the police will go ahead with the filing of the charges and leave it to the prosecutor to decide whether the minor could also be charged in court.
He added that despite their young age, the two were adult-minded as they thought of hiding the victim’s body to cover up their crime.
Piquero said that Brian, whose high school education was being financed by the victim, was detained at the San Mateo police headquarters. His brother, meanwhile, was in the custody of social workers.
