No long weekend; Nov. 2 not a holiday

/ 05:23 PM October 22, 2015

There will be no long weekend by the end of October as Malacañang declares that the day following All Saints’ Day is not a holiday.

Filipinos troop to cemeteries during All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day to remember their departed loved ones. This year, Nov. 2 or the celebration of All Souls’ Day falls on a Monday.

“Pursuant to Proclamation No. 831 issued on July 17, 2014, declaring the regular holidays, special nonworking days and special holidays for 2015, only Nov. 1 was included as a special nonworking day,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.

Nevertheless, Metro Manila residents should look forward to a long weekend from Nov. 17 to 22 as Malacañang ordered the suspension of classes and work in all government offices, including government-owned and -controlled corporations, due to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, which is being hosted by the Philippines this year.

The Palace has also declared Nov. 18-19 nonworking holidays in the National Capital Region due to the Apec meeting. Nestor Corrales/RC
