An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who had just come home on vacation was killed while nine more people were injured in a multiple collision in Antipolo City on Saturday night.
The fatality was identified as Leomel Domingo, a 33-year-old OFW who lived in Antipolo City. He died while he was being treated in a hospital for head injuries.
The nine who were injured were passengers of public utility jeepneys. They were taken to Amang Rodriguez Center for treatment.
Case investigator Police Officer 1 Ruel Acuña said five vehicles were involved in the accident which took place on Marcos Highway in Barangay (village) Mayamot at around 7 p.m. on Saturday.
According to him, it all started when a passenger jeepney overtook another jeepney but collided with an Elf truck. Due to the impact, the truck hit another passenger jeepney.
Acuña said a jeepney driver identified as Benjie Buenaflor, 24, tried to avoid the pileup but ended up swerving onto the opposite lane of the highway where he hit Domingo’s motorcycle.
Acuña said the police would file a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against Buenaflor.
