Two Philippine C-130 cargo planes carrying relief goods and disaster officials flew to typhoon-stricken towns in Aurora on Wednesday.
Interior Secretary chief Senen Sarmiento, Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chief Executive Director Alexander Pama led the visit.
“We met with local chief executives to make a coordination for organized relief operations in Baler and nearby towns,” Pama said in a televised press briefing.
They also distributed food items that will serve as additional relief items in their visits to the severely hit towns of Baler and Casiguran.
It was also the first time that C-130 planes landed in these towns, Pama noted.
Roads to Casiguran from Baler are now passable as debris from landslides were initially cleared.
The first C-130 arrived in Baler Airport at 8 am with 840 family food packs. After unloading some of the relief goods, the same C-130 flew to Casiguran Airport deliver relief goods.
In Casiguran, they distributed 660 family food packs, 1,680 pcs blankets, 1,968 pcs sack mosquito nets, 270 pcs malong and other essentials.
At its peak as a typhoon, Lando caused suspension of classes, cancellation of dozens of flights, and stranded thousands of passengers. Thousands were also sheltered in evacuation centers due to massive flooding and landslides.
It weakened into a low pressure area on Wednesday afternoon. TVJ
