Woman’s body recovered in Guimaras boat sinking

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The remains of the ninth fatality in the motorboat accident at the Iloilo Strait was recovered Tuesday evening.

Residents spotted the body of Shine Mata, 30, around 10 p.m. in Barangay Sawang in Buenavista town in Guimaras, the same village where the remains of her 3-year-old son, CJ Gamotea, was earlier recovered.

Coast Guard divers retrieved the body later in the evening, according to Lt. Junior Grade Edison Diaz, Coast Guard Iloilo commander.

Mata’s two other children Mark, 9, and Luke Shile, 6, are among the fatalities.

The motorboat Tawash was on its way from Iloilo City to Jordan port when it was battered by sudden and forceful gust of winds, forcing it to capsize Sunday afternoon.  SFM
