New York City police officer dies after being shot in head
NEW YORK— A New York City police officer has died after being shot in the head in a gun battle while pursuing a suspect following a report of shots fired.
The shooting happened in Manhattan’s East Harlem neighborhood on Tuesday night.
Police say 33-year-old Randolph Holder is the fourth police officer killed in the line of duty in the last 11 months.
Police say Holder and his partners in the Housing Bureau were responding to reports of gunfire when they encountered a suspect. Gunfire was exchanged and the officer was hit. The suspect was captured several blocks away with gunshot wound to his leg. Three other men were taken into custody and are being questioned.
A section of a busy parkway has been shut down near where the officer was shot.
