133 of 834 bets for Negros Occ posts women

BACOLOD CITY— There are 834 candidates running for elective posts in Negros Occidental province and Bacolod City next year, of which 133 are female, or 15.95 percent, Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office data showed yesterday.

There is one candidate for governor and two for vice governor, all of whom are male.

Of the 18 candidates for Congress, only two are female—Rep. Mercedes Alvarez of the 6th district and La Carlota Mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer, 4th district.

Of the 18 bets for the provincial board seats, only one is female—Helen Zafra of the 6th district.

Comelec data also showed that of the 80 candidates for mayor, 67 are male and 13 are female, while of the 63 candidates for vice mayor, 51 are male and 12 are female.
