Iba, Zambales gets half a month’s worth of rainfall in 24 hours due to Lando
The rains dumped by Typhoon Lando (international name Koppu) in Iba, Zambales in 24 hours were half a month’s worth of average rainfall, the state weather bureau said.
“Yung pinakamalakas na ulan ay sa Iba. Ang amount ay 154.8 millimeters (mm) in 24 hours. Ang average sa isang buwan ay 298.5 mm, so isang araw ng ulan ay halos kalahati ng isang buwan,” Esperanza Cayanan, Pagasa weather division chief said in a press briefing on Monday.
Dagupan, Pangasinan, which has a monthly average rainfall of 294.2 mm, received 114.5mm in 24 hours. Meanwhile, Clark, Pampanga, where an average rainfall of 177 mm is recorded, received 108.42 mm in 24 hours.
In 2009, Ondoy dumped 455 mm worth of rainfall in 24 hours based on the record of Pagasa Science Garden.
Lando slammed Aurora early Sunday before it headed towards northern Philippines with its slow pace of 5 kilometers per hour. It is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday or Saturday.
The typhoon, last tracked 40 kilometers north northwest of Vigan City, will still bring heavy to intense rains within its 600 kilometer radius. It packed maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gusts of up to 150 kph.
