CERVICAL cancer survivor Bernardita Ceballo moved to the capital from Catanduanes province more than a month ago to undergo chemotherapy for the new cancer cells that were detected, this time just above her breast.

She has since been staying in a cousin’s house in Kamuning, Quezon City. In the wee hours of Sept. 19, she couldn’t sleep because of the heat and decided to go out for some air. But she took a wrong step in the dark and accidentally fell into a nearby creek, breaking her left leg.

“The creek was very deep, she was not able to move for minutes after she fell. The injury was so bad that she’s still unable to walk,” her husband, Rafael, told the Inquirer last week.

The accident added to the medical problems of the 58-year-old housewife and mother of six. Before the fall, she had just undergone radiation procedure and was forced to postpone her chemotherapy sessions because of the Sept. 19 incident.

Rafael, a laborer from Panganiban, Catanduanes, is appealing to Inquirer readers for financial help. Aside from incurring bills at East Avenue Medical Center amounting to P40,000 for her leg injury, Bernardita also needs a leg brace costing P30,000.

Her attending physician at EAMC is Dr. Lawrence Lao.

The Ceballos can be reached at 09183244271. Donations may be sent to Marlene C. Villegas, Rafael’s sister, through her Metrobank Account No. 290-3-29024302-6.
