At least one person died and six were wounded when an Ipil-ipil tree fell on a house in Quezon City due to the strong winds brought by typhoon “Lando” (international name: Koppu).
Aaron Castillo, a 14-year-old boy, was sleeping inside their house in the Bureau of Forestry Development compound in Barangay Central when the tree was uprooted and hit their home at around 9 a.m. on Sunday.
A report by Radyo Inquirer said that Castillo was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) where he died.
Residents needed to tear down a concrete wall to allow rescuers to enter the compound.
Meanwhile, the still unidentified six injured persons were rushed to EAMC for treatment.
According to the latest weather bulletin issued by state weather agency Pagasa, Metro Manila is placed under Signal No. 2 due to Lando.
Lando slightly weakened as it now packs maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph.
As of 1 p.m., Lando was located at the vicinity of Caranglan, Nueva Ecija. With a report from Chona Yu, Radyo Inquirer
