Erice hurdles plaint
The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed by a defeated reelectionist for Congress questioning the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) ruling which upheld the victory of her rival, Caloocan 2nd district Rep. Edgar Erice.
In an en banc session Tuesday, the high court voted to dismiss the plea for certiorari filed by the district’s former representative Mary Mitzi Cajayon.
“The Court, finding no grave abuse of discretion on the part of respondent HRET, dismissed the petition for certiorari dated Sept. 22, challenging respondent HRET’s actions,” the high tribunal said.
In its decision, a summary of which was released last week, the high court upheld the HRET’s ruling of March 18 of this year dismissing Cajayon’s electoral protest in favor of Erice, also the Liberal Party’s political affairs chief.
