FORMER President Fidel V. Ramos will spearhead a golf tournament to raise funds for the education of the children of soldiers, policemen and Coast Guard personnel killed in the line of duty.
Senior amateur golfers will participate in the tournament which aims to raise P5 million for orphans’ scholarship fund.
“We expect to have more contributions for this one because sponsors are coming in. Hopefully we will serve the great needs of the widows and the orphans,” Ramos said.
The former President was in Camp Aguinaldo on Thursday to announce the golf tournament.
Earlier, Ramos helped raise funds for the families of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos that were killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
Through sales of his book, “Giving Back: Service and Legacy,” Ramos was able to raise P176,000 for the SAF beneficiaries.
He said he hoped to raise P5 million to help particularly younger children of the slain SAF men.
“They are very young and they are not yet qualified to be in the scholarship program. What we are trying to do is support their school needs until they finish high school,” he said. Julie M. Aurelio
