Sandra Cam: I want to be masses’ ‘true voice’ in Senate

Sandra Cam wants to be masses' 'voice' in Senate

Whistleblower Sandra Cam on Thursday filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator in the 2016 elections.

Cam said she decided to seek a post in the Senate to be the “true voice” of the Filipino masses in the legislative body.

“Ako po ay lumalaban sa pagka-senador dahil gusto ko lang po na magkaroon ng tunay na boses ang masang Pilipino sa Senado,” Cam told the media in a short speech after filing her COC at the Commission on Elections main office in Intramuros.

Cam, who will be running under Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, said her platform would focus on the rights of migrant workers and senior citizens, as well as the issue of sovereignty in contested areas of the West Philippine Sea.

“I do understand the feelings of OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) because I was an OFW before,” Cam said.

“I also want to tell the media that I am an educator. I own a school in Cavite from kindergarten to college and in Masbate,” she added.

Urging her fellow “anti-corruption advocates” to support her, Cam said she will also push for the passage of a Whistleblower’s Act if ever elected senator.

Cam is the head of the Whistleblowers Association of the Philippines. IDL
