DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, Philippines – Commission on Elections Commissioner Sherif Abas said on Wednesday, the filing of certificates of candidacy has been generally peaceful the past three days in Southern Mindanao, Central Mindanao and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Abas told reporters during a visit at the Comelec city office here that hopefully, the situation would remain until after the elections.
“We have not monitored any violent incident so far,” he said.
Abas said the Comelec en banc would meet soon to determine the possible areas of concern in connection with the May 2016 elections across the country.
He said the assessment would be based on previous experiences, including the 2010 and 2013 elections.
Abas said a comprehensive security plan has been readied to prevent violence until the Election Day. SFM
