JITRA—Being physically challenged did not deter two visually impaired students here from sitting for the Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3) or assessment exam.
D. Moagan and Nur Hafida Mat Lazin, both from SMK Hosba in Changlun, were in high spirits as they answered the Bahasa Malaysia paper on day one of the test yesterday.
The duo carefully “read” by running their fingers through the questions in Braille before answering them using a Braille typewriter.
SMK Hosba principal Abu Bakar Said praised the duo for being hardworking and hoped that they would fare well.
He said there were 198 PT3 candidates in the school.
Over at SMK Syed Mohamed Al-Bukhary in Jalan Stadium, Alor Setar, a total of 185 candidates including 15 special students are taking the exam.
All in, a total of 37,203 students are sitting for the PT3 written test at 224 examination centers in Kedah this year.
In Penang, a total of 23,927 candidates are sitting for the PT3 in 136 centers throughout the state.
State Education Department director Shaari Osman said 23,606 students were from 125 government schools while 319 were from nine private schools.
“There are also two adults who are taking the exam in two private centers,” he said yesterday.
