COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Police and Army experts foiled on Monday, a bombing attempt on the first day of the filing of certificates of candidacy.

Police said an improvised bomb was found and detonated by Army experts at past 12 noon, Monday, in the interior portion of Pansacala, Barangay Rosary Heights Mother here.

Quoting a report from police bomb experts, Senior Supt. Rex Anongos, city police director, said the IED was made of a 60 mm mortar with mobile phone as triggering device.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Anongos could not say if the IED was intended for anyone of those who filed certificates of candidacy.

A bomb expert said they detonated the IED because it was live when found and could have exploded any time. Residents in Barangay Rosary Heights Mother heard a loud explosion at 12:45 p.m. when bomb experts set off the explosive. No one has claimed responsibility for planting the bomb. SFM
