Neri Colmenares files COC for senator with Angel Locsin in tow

Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares filed his certificate of candidacy for senator on Monday at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) head office in Intramuros in Manila.

Colmenares, who vows to provide better services to the people, was accompanied by former Bayan Muna representative Satur Ocampo and actress Angel Locsin.

“Tatakbo po ako bilang senador upang ang yaman ng Pilipinas ay mapakinabangan nating mga Pilipino. Tatakbo po ako para may fighter ng bayan tayo sa senado,” Colmenares said.

(I am running for senator so that Filipinos can benefit from the wealth of our country. I am running so that we will have a fighter in Senate.)

Locsin is technically Colmenares’ aunt but the family of the actress considers the militant lawmaker as their cousin.

The lawmaker said that Locsin was there to support the principles being upheld by the militant Makabayan bloc.

“Si Angel ay hindi lamang sumusuporta bilang kamag-anak kung hindi naniniwala din siya sa prinsipyo ng Makabayan,” he said.

(Angel is here to support (me) not just because we are relatives, but because she believes in the principles of the Makabayan.)

This will be the third time that the Makabayan bloc will field a senatorial candidate after Ocampo and Liza Maza in 2010 and Teddy Casiño in 2013. None of the three won. IDL
