The Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan province, owned by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), has set another world record with the premiere of the movie “Felix Manalo” which its director said was a “tribute to the Filipino spirit.”
At least 46,624 people watched the movie’s initial screening at the arena, which has a capacity of 55,000.
In a statement, director Joel Lamangan urged people to watch the historical drama.
“The story of Felix Manalo is very much the story of every Filipino,” said Lamangan in the statement.
“You don’t have to be an INC member to appreciate that,” said the multi-awarded director.
“Manalo” broke the previous record for “Largest Attendance For A Film Screening” held by Stars and Stripes Honor Flight (United States) for the world premiere of “Honor Flight” in 2012 which was attended by 28,442 people.
The record was previously held by “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” which was seen by 10,000 people at the O2 Arena in London in 2008.
The Philippine Arena holds the world record for “largest mixed-use indoor theater.”
Lamangan said he believes there’s now a market for historical dramas like “Manalo.” With report from Rafael Antonio, Inquirer Research
