Council: Road widening first before projects

ANY developments in Cebu City’s northern corridor would have to wait until road widening is  completed.

The City Council last Wednesday passed three resolutions on this matter.

One directed the Office of the Building Official (OBO) to deny approval of new applications for building permits and renovation of existing structures within a 20-meter area from an existing road.

Another resolution directed the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) to declare as “no development zone” a portion of the north road from the Mahiga Creek where a  widening project will be done.

The zone would cover the area near the Gaisano Country Mall to the junction of the Cabancalan road in barangay Talamban.

A third resolution directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to install markers along the road to  inform the public of the widening project.

Rep. Rachel Marguerite del Mar of Cebu City’s north district earlier announced that the national government approved a  P150 million outlay for the widening project.

However, no date has been set for the widening project.

The DPWH  already conducted a parcillary survey of the proposed road widening project which essentially includes lots both of private and public ownership along the areas affected by said project, said the resolution.  Correspondent Edison delos Angeles
