(Updated) Faulty electrical wiring was the cause of the fire that hit the Quadricentennial Pavilion of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila on Friday morning.
Citing Insp. Efren Bereña, substation fire commander of the Sampaloc Fire Station, The Varsitarian, UST’s official student publication, said the fire broke out at the building’s second floor due to faulty wiring, which began at the duct system.
The Varsitarian said the fire started at 10:30 a.m. and was declared fire out at 11:24 a.m. No one was reportedly injured in the incident.
The Varsitarian, however, said there was no announcement yet on the suspension of classes held in the building which serves as a sports complex with classrooms.
“There is still no official announcement on the suspension of classes at the Quadricentennial Pavillion,” the Varistarian said, quoting security personnel.
In March, a fire broke out at UST’s St. Raymund Peñafort building. IDL
