Five suspected car thieves were killed in a shootout with anti-carnapping police in Payatas, Quezon City Friday morning.
Five armed men shot it out with Quezon City Police District’s (QCPD’s) Anti-Carnapping (Ancar) Unit while the suspects were on board a taxi and a black SUV they allegedly stole. The encounter happened along Payatas Road past 9 a.m.
QCPD Ancar head Chief Inspector Richard Ang said at around 6:55 a.m., a report reached the police that a “Karol Nick” taxi with plate number UWB 489 was forcibly taken by still unidentified men.
While the Ancar cops were patroling, they spotted the stolen taxi tailed by the SUV along Commonwealth Avenue-Litex Road.
Police then tailed the vehicles and called personnel conducting checkpoints on Payatas Road to reinforce them.
The operatives were able to corner the two vehicles. It was then that the suspects fired at the cops, prompting them to retaliate.
All five men, who have yet to be identified by the police, were killed. No one was hurt from the law enforcers’ side.
As of posting time, Scene of the Crime Operatives have arrived in Payatas to retrieve the bodies. Julliane Love de Jesus/RAM
