THE Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) finally gets the chance to redeem itself in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) secondary football after marching to the final round with a clean slate.
Last year, DBTC advanced to the semis also with a clean slate only to forfeit its game against the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) to play in the 20th Cebu City Olympics. DBTC was eventually suspended by the Cesafi.
This year, DBTC underscored its bid to regain lost glory with a 14-0 annihilation of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) yesterday to advance to the finals slated next Saturday.
DBTC’s scoring spree was led by Valentino B. Calvo with five goals in the 50th, 58th, 66th, 77th and 82nd minutes. Other scorers were Nonito Salazar Jr. (2), Christian Keen Agot (2), Joseph Lorenzo Mercado (2), Yves Russel Caballero, Junjay Arizabal and Niel Ryan Bono.
However, defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) vowed to stop DBTC’s title ambitions after the Magis Eagles also made the finals with an 8-2 routing of USJ-R at the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Subangdaku Mandaue.
Scoring for the Magis Eagles were Matthew Luigi Minoza with four goals; Keefe Rudolf Yap with two, and one goal each from Wilfred Villaver and Anton Mari Canoy.
Scoring for the junior Jaguars were Jude Jocyril Alcoseba and John Paulo Labajo.
USJ-R and USPF will fight for the third place.
In the collegiate semifinals, defending champion University of Cebu (UC) battles University of San Carlos (USC) while USPF and the University of the Visayas (UV). /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
