Passenger train derails in US; no critical injuries
ROXBURY, Vermont — Authorities say a passenger train headed from Vermont to Washington, D.C., has derailed in central Vermont. Amtrak says there doesn’t appear to be any life-threatening injuries.
The national train company, Amtrak, says the Vermonter train derailed Monday morning near Roxbury, about 20 miles (30 kilometers) southwest of Montpelier. It says the train reportedly struck a rock slide on the tracks.
The 13-hour, 45-minute daily trip begins in St. Albans in northern Vermont. The route passes through cities including Burlington, Vermont, Springfield, Massachusetts, and New York, with D.C. as the final destination.
Vermont State Police and local fire and rescue agencies are responding. Numerous emergency vehicles are at the scene.
