ON OCT. 6, 1762, British forces were able to capture Manila from the Spaniards and began their two years of occupancy in the Philippines. On March 31, 1764, the British restored the title of governor-general to Spanish captain-general Simon de Anda y Salazar who defended the Philippines at the height of the British invasion.
