Robredo ‘will be the front runner’ in vice presidential race—LP stalwart

The survey ratings of Camarines Sur Rep. Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo will likely surge after she accepted the offer to be the running mate of Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, a LP stalwart said on Monday.

In a statement, Iloilo City Rep. Congressman Jerry Trenas said Robredo’s survey ratings would surge after she was endorsed by President Benigno Aquino III.

“Nothing beats good performance as a tool in securing the support of our people. I think that it’s a just a matter of time, and she will be the front runner in the vice-presidential race,” Trenas said.

He said Robredo has an “unblemished track record as a public servant” and “a champion of good governance and staunch fighter against graft and corruption.”

“I’m really happy that Congresswoman Leni Robredo finally decided to accept our offer for her to become the running mate of former Secretary Mar Roxas. Her decision will complete LP’s Team Daang Matuwid,” he said.

The lawmaker said Robredo’s vice presidential bid is a “solid testament to LP’s commitment in advancing greater role for women in nation-building.”

On Monday, Robredo announced her vice presidential bid after accepting Roxas’ offer to be his running mate in 2016.

“Matapos ang malalim na pag-iisip, malawak na konsultasyon at mataimtim na pagdadasal, buong puso, buong pananampalataya at buong tapat ko pong tinatanggap ang hamon na tumakbo bilang pangalawang pangulo ni Secretary Mar Roxas,” she said in her acceptance speech.

Robredo will have a four-way fight for the vice presidency after senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Alan Peter Cayetano, and Antonio Trillanes IV earlier announced their vice presidential bid. JE
