Liberal Party (LP) acting president and Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said the ruling party on Monday will focus on Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo and her decision to run as vice president.
LP’s senate slate will be presented to the public on Friday instead.
Asked why they decided to separately announce the party’s vice presidential candidate and senate slate, Abaya said, “Because this is a big day for the LP and the decision of Rep. Leni further strengthens the continuation of Daang Matuwid.”
“We will announce Friday. Process is still ongoing,” he said of the senate slate.
The LP announcement of its national election candidates has been delayed for various reasons.
After Senator Grace Poe announced that she will run for president, LP standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas set his eyes on Robredo, who has strong civil society support.
Robredo reportedly hesitated because of her family’s opposition.
On the other hand, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Francis Tolentino, who is among those supposedly included in LP’s senate slate, is now in hot water after a controversial post-LP event in Laguna featured sexy dancers allegedly hired by him.
