Fire hits apartment for Army soldiers

AN APARTMENT for Army soldiers in Taguig City was damaged by a fire on Saturday afternoon.

The blaze hit the Philippine Army’s Enlisted Personnel Quarters 11 in Fort Bonifacio around 3:30 p.m.

Col. Benjamin Hao, Army spokesperson, said the soldiers’ quarters was a 10-door apartment worth P1.2 million.

The fire reportedly began in a unit occupied by a staff sergeant although authorities were still trying to determine its cause.

Three Army fire trucks and eight from the Taguig City fire department, as well as fire volunteers from Taguig City and Pasig City, worked together to put out the blaze.

The fire was eventually put out more than an hour later but not before it destroyed part of the facility and the personal belongings of soldiers.

Hao said the 10 families affected by the fire were taken to the Enlisted Personnel Transient Quarters where they would remain temporarily.
