A low pressure area (LPA) will bring light to moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms in parts of Metro Manila, Luzon and the Visayas, the weather bureau said.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas and the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

The LPA has chances of becoming a tropical cyclone, said Aldczar Aurelio of Pagasa.

If it intensifies into a tropical depression it will be locally named “Kabayan.”

Metro Manila is indirectly being affected by the LPA, which may spawn light to moderate rain on Friday, Aurelio said.

The LPA was last tracked 245 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar.

At 7:34 a.m, Pagasa said light to moderate rain affecting portions of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Quezon, and Laguna may persist for 1-2 hours.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to the southeast will prevail over Luzon and from the northeast to the northwest over the Visayas and coming from the south to southwest over Mindanao.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. CB
