Vice President Jejomar Binay on Wednesday dismissed as “just demolition by perception” the resumption next week of Senate hearings on yet another allegation of corruption against him.
Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV had told reporters on Tuesday he had a new case against Binay involving “billions of pesos” but he did not elaborate.
“Its just all talk,” Binay told reporters who asked him about Trillanes’ bid to resume Senate hearings against him.
Binay said he expected the renewed Senate inquiry on him either after he filed his certificate of candidacy or in January next year.
Asked how this would affect his presidential bid, he said people knew that this was “just all politics.”
“People know that in this prolonged Senate inquiry, there will be more demolition,” he said.
And while Binay said he was affected initially by the demolition job against him, he noted that his core supporters remain with him.
Binay’s political spokesperson Rico Quicho said they were sad about the demolition job on Binay as well as the lies told against him by Trillanes and other rivals in order to get media’s attention.
“In more than one year of investigation, Sen. Trillanes just engaged in talk and has not shown evidence to support his allegations,” Quicho said in a statement.
Quicho said Trillanes should be held accountable for the wrong use of his Priority Development Assistance Fund, Disbursement Acceleration Program and his expenses for hiring many consultants using people’s taxes.
“Sen. Trillanes’ style of discrediting other individuals without proof will not help him in his candidacy,” Quicho said, referring to Trillanes’ bid for the vice presidency in the 2016 elections.
Sen. Nancy Binay, for her part, said her father had already filed libel suits against those who had maligned him and that these senators should face the courts rather than delay the process.
Binay’s eldest daughter also said some people had approached to say they were supporting her father’s presidential bid but they did not want to come out for fear that they would be taken to court for certain issues.
