Korean rob suspect bolts immigration facility
Immigration Commissioner Siegfred Mison on Wednesday ordered a thorough investigation into the escape of a Korean national from the bureau’s warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig City.
Mison immediately ordered a hunt for Cho Seong-dae who was discovered missing around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
“The personnel who were tasked to secure custody were likewise directed to submit their explanation on the incident,” said Elaine Tan, Bureau of Immigration (BI) spokesperson.
The bureau took Cho into custody on Sept. 11 after a summary deportation order dated Sept. 9 was issued against him for being an undesirable alien. It turned out that he was wanted in Korea on an extortion case amounting to $23,500.
The BI also learned that Cho was facing a robbery case in Cavite province.
“We are considering all angles to establish Cho’s whereabouts,” said Tan, adding that the Korean Embassy had been informed of his escape.–Tina G. Santos
