Sarmiento takes oath as Interior Secretary

FORMER congressman Mel Senen Sarmiento took his oath of office as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday afternoon.

President Benigno Aquino III administered the oath, based on a photo released to the Malacañang Press Corps.

Those who witnessed the event were Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.

Sarmiento replaced Roxas who resigned from office after being endorsed by Aquino as the presidential candidate of ruling Liberal Party.
