Reyeses’ jailer relieved

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) announced Sunday the relief of Puerto Princesa City Jail warden, Superintendent Don M. Paredes, for allowing detained former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes to hold a press conference following his commitment there last Friday.

The announcement was made by the BJMP Region 4-B’s Community Relations Service. It stated that Paredes relief was “to pave way for the conduct on an investigation regarding the alleged press con at the Puerto Princesa City Jail.”

Paredes was replaced by his second in command, Warden Ariel Pabulayan, as office in charge.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima had earlier demanded from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) the relief of Paredes, stating that the press conference was a special privilege granted by the prison management to Reyes.
