2 suspects in 2010 kidnapping of nurse in Zamboanga Sibugay arrested
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga Sibugay police arrested two suspects in the December 2010 kidnapping of nurse Maricris Sogradiel Cuartocruz from this city, authorities said Saturday.
Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo, acting city police chief, said Rajack Campo and Abdurahman Abdurahim were apprehended inside the public market of Malangas town in Zamboanga Sibugay.
De Ocampo said the arrest was made based on a warrant issued by a local court in connection with the kidnapping charges that the Cuartocruz family had filed against suspects in the nurse’s disappearance.
Cuartocruz was abducted by several armed men inside the family’s home in Barangay (village) Manicahan here and was brought to Zamboanga Sibugay.
She spent more than two months in captivity before her kidnappers freed her on February 28.
Her family admitted that she was released after they gave “board and lodging fee” to the kidnappers.
