The division of Taguig and Pateros ranked first among the cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) in the 2015 National Achievement Test (NAT) for graduating elementary and secondary public school students.
Taguig City pulled off the feat for the second consecutive year, Mayor Lani Cayetano noted in a statement.
“When we took over the reins of the city in 2010, Taguig was a bottom dweller at No. 13 in the NAT rankings in NCR. We said we will invest heavily in education and try to improve our performance for the following year,” she recalled.
The NAT is a measure of students’ competencies in five key subjects and is administered to determine the quality of education they receive.
A city’s performance is assessed based on the students’ mean percentage score (MPS).
According to the NCR office of the Department of Education, Taguig students achieved an overall MPS of 68.32 and 57.11 in the elementary and secondary level, respectively, outperforming bigger cities like Quezon City, Manila, Pasig and Makati.
