Overflowing rivers due to heavy rains in Zamboanga leave 1 killed, 3 hurt

ZAMBOANGA CITY – One person was reported killed while three others were injured as rivers overflowed due to heavy rains here Friday.

Elmer Apolinario, city administrator, said among those affected were the villages of San Roque and Putik.

He said floodwaters, which rose to level of the chest of a fully-grown man, submerged a number of areas.

More than a hundred families were affected, he said, adding that Navy personnel were deployed to help pluck people out of their homes.

The heavy rains have subsided as of 3:25 p.m. although it was still showering.

The level of water in some swollen rivers had also reportedly receded.
