Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz urged private sector employers to observe wage rules and core labor standards Friday, a regular holiday across the nation in celebration of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, among Muslims.

“Proper observance of the pay rules on a regular holiday strengthens decent work and encourages productivity. Voluntary compliance of companies with this labor standard is a good business practice,” Baldoz said.

President Aquino issued Proclamation No. 1128 declaring Sept. 25 a regular holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha.

“If the employee reports for work during a regular holiday, the employee shall be paid 200 percent of his/her regular salary for that day for the first eight hours, and for work in excess of the eight hours, an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate on the said day,” Baldoz said.

If the day falls on an employee’s rest day and he/she goes to work, he/she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her daily rate of 200 percent.

For work in excess of eight hours during a holiday that also falls on his or her rest day, he/she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate on said day.

“If the employee does not work during a regular holiday, he is still entitled to 100 percent of his salary for that day,” Baldoz said.
