Senator Grace Poe, Vice President Jejomar Binay and administration bet Mar Roxas led the field of presidentiables in a newly released survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Conducted from September 2 to 5, among 1,200 respondents nationwide, the SWS survey conducted with BusinessWorld showed that 26 percent would vote for Poe, 24 percent would vote for Binay and 20 percent for Roxas.

The results released by BusinessWorld on Wednesday had a margin of error of + or – 3 percent.

The paper said 96 percent of the respondents were registered voters.

Unlike the other SWS survey released earlier in the week, the 2nd pre-election poll asked respondents to pick one name from a list of 12 possible presidential candidates.

“Among the names found in this list, who will you probably vote for as president of the Philippines if elections were held today?” the survey asked.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte came in fourth with a rating of 11 percent while Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero were tied with 4 percent each.

Landing in the second half of the poll results were former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada (3 percent), Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago (2 percent), former senator Manuel Villar Jr. (1 percent), former senator and rehabilitation czar Panfilo Lacson (0.8 percent), Senator Alan Peter Cayetano (0.8 percent), and Senator Loren Legarda (0.8 percent).

2nd poll

The recent survey is the second poll released by SWS this week.

The first one involved asking respondents who their top-of-mind candidates were. Instead of being given a list of names to choose from, it asked respondents to name three persons whom they thought were best to succeed President Benigno Aquino III.

In that poll, Poe led with 47 percent. She was followed by Roxas with 39 percent. Binay was third with 35 percent.

Poe and Escudero recently announced their decision to run together – Poe as president and Escudero as vice president – in the 2016 elections.

Binay, the candidate of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance, was the first to declare his intention to run while Roxas is Aquino’s “anointed one.”

Both surveys were conducted a month after Aquino endorsed Roxas and before Poe and Escudero announced their plan as running mates.

VP

The recent survey, like the first one, showed that Poe (27 percent) and Escudero (20 percent) were leading among possible vice presidential candidates.

The others in the list provided were—from highest preference to lowest—were Duterte (9 percent), Marcos (7 percent), Estrada (7 percent), Cayetano (5 percent), Legarda (5 percent), Santos-Recto (4 percent), Trillanes (4 percent), Lacson (3 percent), Robredo (3 percent), Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada (2 percent), former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza (0.9 percent).
