/ 06:42 AM October 08, 2011

Police seized at least 14 assorted firearms from a gun runner at pier 6 Thursday evening.

Joel Hermosa of Danao City did not resist arrest when police inspected his two bags before he boarded a vessel bound for Cagayan City at 8 p.m.

He said he was supposed to deliver them to Mindanao.

Chief Insp. Bonifacio Garciano of the Cebu City police said they started their surveillance of Hermoso two months ago and were alerted about his delivery set for Thursday evening.

Police said a porter who assisted Hermosa when he arrived at the pier fled when he noticed the police.

Hermoso admitted owning the bags and voluntarily opened them for inspection.

Police found 14 firearms, including two high-powered semi machine automatic pistols.

Hermosa said the pistols were worth P100,000.

Hermosa said two weeks ago a buyer from Bukidnon called and ordered his fourth shipment of firearms.

He said he earns P500 or more for every shipment.

Hermosa, who is detained at the CPPO, will be charged with illesal possession of firearms in violation of Republic Act 8294.  Correspondent Chito Aragon
