CEBU CITY—A dump truck almost fell off a flyover in Maguikay, Mandaue City, after hitting a motorcycle, causing heavy traffic congestion on Tuesday morning.
Traffic authorities were forced to partially close the flyover to traffic for a few hours until the truck was lifted from the area.
As a result, some residents have reported being late for work and school.
SPO4 Vicente Benabaye of the Mandaue City Police Office traffic division said the Isuzu truck bearing plate number 7MC-126-792 was heading to Cebu City from the northern part of Cebu when the accident happened at around 6 a.m.
The truck, driven by Renato Racasa, suddenly swerved to the other lane as he traversed the Maguikay flyover of the busy MC Briones Road, hitting an oncoming motorcycle driven by Alexander Coraton, 48, from Cansaga, Consolacion.
The truck later rammed into the railings, leaving its front tire hanging on the edge of the flyover.
It was not known why the accident happened as Racasa fled.
Rescuers immediately brought the motorcycle driver to the Mandaue City Hospital. As of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Racasa has yet to surrender but truck owner John Velasquez showed up and assured Coraton that he will shoulder his hospital expenses. Jhunnex Napallacan/RC
