The ruling Liberal Party (LP) will announce the running mate of its standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II on September 28, a party stalwart said on Tuesday.
LP political affairs chief and Caloocan City Representative Edgar Erice said the party would finally announce Roxas as its official candidate months after Aquino endorsed him as the administration’s presidential bet.
Erice said the vice president of Roxas and the LP’s complete senatorial slate would be announced at a party convention at the Club Filipino.
He said the decision regarding LP’s vice president is already up to Roxas.
Among the sure senatorial candidates under the LP slate are Senate President Franklin Drilon, Senators Ralph Recto and Teofisto “TG” Guingona III and former senator and food czar Francis Pangilinan.
The LP had been courting Senator Grace Poe to be Roxas’ running mate until she declared her presidential bid last September 16.
Roxas has formally asked Camarines Sur Representative Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo to complete his tandem, but the lawmaker remains undecided.
The LP is also considering Senator Alan Peter Cayetano for its vice presidential bet. Nestor Corrales, INQUIRER.net/CDG
